FAQs

Q   Can individuals join TOWMA, or just WMA’s?

A   Anyone can join, but only the President or one designated person from a member WMA can vote.  You are automatically an Associate Member if you are a member of any WMA that belongs to TOWMA.  Affiliate Members are individuals who are not members of a TOWMA WMA and their dues are currently $10 per year.  You can find an application HERE
Q   If my WMA belongs to TOWMA, why would I want to join separately?  I understand I can attend TOWMA meetings anyway, and I can’t vote even if I join separately, so what’s the point in joining?

A  There is no reason to join separately if you belong to a member WMA, you are already considered an Associate member. Either way though, you should sign up for our Opt-In newsletter mailing list so you will receive our electronic newsletter. Due to the huge cost of printing and mailing ($5,000 and more per issue) we no longer produce a printed newsletter. You can sign up for the Newsletter here:

Q   I am a relatively new landowner and am trying to learn how to most effectively manage my ranch for wildlife. The two TOWMA wildlife symposiums I attended were undoubtedly the most informative sessions I have ever attended.  I have applied more of what I learned at those two functions than all the rest combined.  My only gripe is that they are only held every two years.  Why doesn’t TOWMA do one every year, it’s something we need.

A   It comes back to a shortage of manpower. All TOWMA officials are volunteers at this time. Those symposiums require hundreds of man hours to put together, and TOWMA volunteers also have a life to live just like you.  Many TOWMA officers and Advisory Board Members, the people who do most of the work, have been working for TOWMA for many years.  They can only do so much.

Q   How can we get our local WMA events listed on the TOWMA website?

A   Just send us your announcement! We will gladly list all local WMA events in the Calendar section of this web site.  Write out the announcement as you want it shown, and email it to TOWMA’s webmaster at ljones@towma.org.  If you provide a URL to a brochure you on line we will link to that as well. Our webmaster is another TOWMA volunteer, so send it early and allow up to a week to get it on line.

Q   Where does TOWMA get the money to build a web site, buy burn trailers, and do everything else it does?

A   Our projects are funded by grants from various organizations and individuals interested in supporting the activities TOWMA engages in to protect habitat and wildlife.  For example, we did not “buy” the burn trailers you refer to, they were made available through grants. For example, the first one was purchased with a grant to the Coastal Bend Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and titled to TOWMA as the organization that would oversee its use.  TOWMA is currently exploring ways to secure sources of long term funding and endowments to allow us to significantly expand our operations. Other income comes from member dues, but the amount is relatively insignificant, at $1.00 per WMA member, in terms of TOWMA’s overall need for funds.
